Look for any bends, twists, cracks, or sharp edges that may damage your sling. Measuring the width of the hook opening can detect subtle deformation of the hook. Compare the measured hook size with the parameters in the product instructions. If it exceeds the original size by 5%, the use of this hook should be stopped. In addition, some hooks are pre marked or raised between the hook mouth and the hook seat, which are reference points for measurement. Legitimate lifting equipment manufacturers will provide the measurement method and corresponding size of the hook in the product manual.

  2. Wear and corrosion

  Check for excessive wear or rust on the hook. If the wear or corrosion exceeds 10% of the original cross-sectional size of the hook, the use of this hook should be discontinued.
