When the ambient temperature drops below -20℃, the physical properties of polyester fibers will undergo significant changes. Low temperatures will weaken the activity of fiber molecules and enhance the intermolecular forces, leading to a sharp decline in the flexibility of the fibers and a substantial increase in their brittleness. At this point, if a sudden impact force is applied to the polyester soft lifting slings, such as when the heavy object suddenly falls and is then forcibly pulled back due to improper operation during lifting, the polyester soft lifting slings are highly likely to break because they cannot withstand the instantaneous stress concentration.

For example, in outdoor lifting operations in frigid regions, if the slings are left standing in an environment of -30℃ for a period of time, and then directly used to lift objects with a weight close to their rated load, with the lifting speed being too fast at the moment of lifting, it may cause fiber breakage. To avoid this risk, before using the slings in a low-temperature environment, a slow preloading operation should be carried out on them — that is, applying a weight equivalent to 10%-20% of the rated load, keeping it for 1-2 minutes, and then unloading. This way, the internal stress generated in the fibers due to low temperatures can be gradually eliminated, allowing the fibers of the polyester soft lifting slings to adapt to the stress state in the low-temperature environment, thereby reducing the possibility of brittle fracture when sudden loads are applied.
